My Top 5 Must Attend Sci-Fi Conventions

What is science fiction?  What are Sci-Fi conventions?  Both good questions, that if you have to ask, you are probably not a fan.  This probably also means you have missed out on attending any of the amazing conventions.  Sci-Fi convention is a broad term many use to refer to any convention involving comics, Sci-Fi, fantasy, or horror shows and rpgs (if you have to ask what rpg stands for, probably not a fan of role playing games).

These conventions are not the nerd Mecca's most people make them out to be.  Although, in all honesty, many of us who attend them are proud to bear the nerd label.

Conventions often encompass anywhere from a couple of days to a week of events.  Events include interviews and meet and greets with popular television show actors as well as actors from no longer running shows.  Television shows and movies often do premiers of new seasons or commercials.  Costume contests mean a lot of people attending come dressed up in extraordinary costumes.  Literary figures are also on hand for autographs, book signings, discussion of their works and in general, being the awesome people they are.

If you are a fan of Sci-Fi, fantasy or horror television or movies, comic books, graphic novels or anything similar, attending a convention is a must.  For the uninitiated, or for the fan who can't narrow down which to attend, here are my top 5 picks:

5. WonderCon - location varies

4. Wonderfest - Louisville, KY

3. Gen Con - Indianapolis, IN

2. Dragon Con - Atlanta, GA

1. Comic Con - San Diego, CA
